New longwall starting up

On Sunday April 4th, longwall production in the Svea Nord mine recommenced after the transfer.

- Everything has proceeded in accordance with our plans, and without any personal injuries, says mine manager Per Nilssen.
Transfer started in the beginning of February, after the completion of longwall D4.

- A longwall transfer is a big operation in terms of logistics, demanding close collaboration between contractors and our own employees. It includes not only dismantling, relocation and reinstallation of about 6000 tons of equipment, but also overhauling and maintaining much of it, Per Nilssen says.

This year, the transfer took about seven weeks, following slightly more than two weeks of pre-transfer reinforcement and preparation.

- The extraction of the new panel D6 has started. We expect some startup flaws, but intend to be in regular production within av few days, Nilssen says.

Longwall panel D6 has a length of 1650 meters, containing approximately 1,8 million tons of extractable coal. Along with the longwall production, the developments of the headings DT8 and main heading H5 are well under way. Both developments will be driven in simultaneously with the longwall D6.
