Longwall transfer approaching

Monday, February 1st : The extraction of Panel D4 in Svea Nord will soon be finished. The large operation of dismantling and transferring the longwall is now to start.

- We have started preparing the longwall for transfer. The preparations will last just over two weeks, says Svea Nord’s Maintenance Manager Martin Lorig.

The first employees from UK firm AMCO arrived Svea last week. In collaboration with Store Norske staff, Amco will transfer the 6500 tons of longwall equipment to the next longwall panel, named D6.

During transfer, much equipment will be overhauled. We will also install a new zinc-covered longwall chain and a complete new hydraulic assembly. This is expected to significantly improve the longwall’s reliability, says Martin Lorig.

According to plan, the longwall transfer will be completed before the end of March. Mine Manager Per Nilssen informs that production will restart after the Easter holidays.

D6 is the eight longwall panel in Svea Nord, containing approx 1,9 mill tonnes of coal.
