HSE at Store Norske
Key elements in the HSE work are Store Norske’s systems for non-conformance management and quality assurance, as well as internal controlsand audits. Store Norske has its own HSE department and safety service with a HSE Manager, safety delegates and several contingency groups. The company has its own mine rescue team, acute emergency response team, fire and rescue service and oil pollution contingency service. All emergency personnel carry out practice exercises and attend training courses in compliance with in-house requirements and legal requirements imposed by the authorities.
Geological conditions, methane gas, ventilation, coal dust and water are all factors that impact on safety in a coal mine. The same applies to the use of equipment and how the individual work operations are performed. Store Norske works closely with Norway’s most advanced technical environments and suppliers of equipment to increase safety and prevent injury.
Store Norske purchases occupational health services from Longyearbyen hospital. Representatives from the occupational health service regularly attend meetings of the company’s working environment committee and take an active part in HSE projects and on safety inspection rounds.
