Coal vessel in Longyearbyen

M/V ”Tasman ID” was this years second – and last – coal vessel in Longyearbyen. Monday night the ship started its voyage towards Rotterdam with a coal cargo of close to 20 000 tonnes on board.
Because of rough sea especially in the southern part of the Barents Sea “Tasman ID” had a significant delay coming to Longyearbyen, but very early Sunday morning the vessel was berthed at the old coal quay. One and a half day later the coal storage area was emptied and “Tasman ID” started its southbound voyage.

Harbour master Trond Johansen in Store Norske is telling that the ship is bound for Rotterdam where the coal is discharged to barges which carries the Mine 7 coal up the Rhine to its new owner within the metallurgical industry in Germany.
